Stamford pays $3.2 million in school sex assault case squib

BRIDGEPORT - The city of Stamford has agreed to pay $3.25 million to five men who claim they were sexually assaulted by a former Stamford public school gym teacher in the 1970s and 1980s. The lawsuits filed in Superior Court here, claimed each of the plaintiff were under the age of 10 when they were assaulted by Robert Martinez who was the gym teacher at the former Rogers School. The suits claimed that the Stamford Board of Education failed to enforce rules prohibiting teachers from having unsupervised access to children and further claims that the school board should have realized that students were at risk because of Martinez's conduct.
