Letters to the editor: Protect your health as you rebuild from Harvey squib
To the editor:
As a nurse practitioner, I have seen firsthand how floodwater damage threatens my patients' health, especially those with lung diseases, such as asthma or COPD. Our region is just beginning to recover from the impacts of Hurricane Harvey, so as we cleanup and rebuild, we must take steps to protect our health. Here are a few reminders.
Protect yourself and any workers. Do not go into a building until it is declared safe by a building inspector. Wear boots, gloves and a NIOSH-certified N95 mask – other masks are not adequate protection. Do not use generators indoors to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
Clean and dry everything that flood waters touched. Use soap and water, not bleach.
